Saturday I took Rory for a short walk. We went through the barn so I could shut off the water (container was overflowing) and we went through the people corridor to the back barn. Narrow and dark, and a wooden floor with a step down half way along. Rory was very good and didn't pull back or try to bolt through. We went out and around behind the arena, along the back of the paddock and down to the track. Rory was quite good. I had to back him up a few times on the track when he pushed into me, but not too many. When we got back up the hill and started between the paddocks back to his paddock he pushed past me. We backed up, turned around and whatnot several times. Finally I whacked his chest once with the looped end of the rope, backed him up two steps and he was fine after that. He just needed to be told "enough" a little more firmly. I was ready to whack him again, but he was very good all the way along and round the corner to his gate. He got lots of scritches after I took his halter off.
Sunday was warmer and sunny, and the temperature dropped through the day so the ground got very icy on the plowed bits between barn and paddocks. I was glad Rory got out for his walk on Saturday as I really didn't want to take a horse anywhere on the skating rink. I just went and did the eyelid grease, scritch and carrot thing.
He's graduating to be a big boy - worming wise anyway. He had a worm check last week and he's clean! So he gets to go onto the regular herd worming cycle now.
